Stampfest by the bay in Clearwater, FL

I went to Stampfest in Clearwater, FL yesterday. My poor friends had to be at my house by 7 am. so we could get down there just before the doors open. I don't think anyone really minded.
Of course my first stop is always at Marco's Papers. I look forward to this every year to stock up on my mirrored card stock.

I walked past all the other booths since I was on a mission and went to Inky Antics. Stampers Anonymous looked like they were still getting organized, since we were let in early. I fell in love with Inky Antics honeycomb paper and stamps that go with it. My friend Donna in WI sent me a set for Christmas. Of course I need more, it's very cute. On to my 3rd booth of course was Stampers Anonymous, Ted is just a down right nice guy. We talked and I could have stood there all day watching him demo. But I was considerate (more than I can say for some others) and I moved out of the way. Well I had a cloud of smoke following behind me and I wondered what the heck. I finally figured it out. I slid my credit card in my cell phone case and put it in my pocket. So yep; you guessed it my credit card was smokin after checking out at S.A.. LOL It was such a great day with all the wonderful ideas vendors have displayed.

Here is one of the cards I made with the Honeycomb paper. Yes I cased the card that was on the package since it was my first attempt. Also a great picture of Ted Cutts from Stamper Anonymous.

WOW more Metal Embossing

I did this with Maria Luisa just before Christmas. I showed her how to cover the box with Tim Holtz product and she in turn showed me the top. I made this for my friend Judy. She's the only one I know that plays cards. The box is a card older.

I coverd the box with Tim Holtz paper and put a layer of Polyurethane to seal the paper. On the top I did the awesome Metal Embossing. Maria Luisa even embedded some stones in the project. How cool is that. The inside of the box was also finished with Tim Holtz paper, along the edges I used his tissue tape.

Christmas 2011

Well Christmas is over and all the kids are gone. We had both boys and their families here for the holidays. The house sure is empty without them.
With the help of Maria Luisa at the Crafty Lady in Inverness, FL I was able to do a metal embossed jewelry box for each daughter-in-law and each son received a dresser box with their initials on it. Maria Luisa holds a special place in my heart. I know each box will be treasured forever. I would not have been able to get these done without Maria Luisa's help.
The boys helped us do some big jobs around the house, since we are planning on putting the house on the market. It may take forever to sell but we are in no hurry.
We were also able to get some long awaited family pictures done. It had been four years since we've been all together in the same place. Our sons live on opposite sides of the U.S. We had wonderful weather here in Florida while they were here. We were in the pool at 10p.m. Christmas Eve it was so much fun.

I wanted to make something a bit special for my very special friend Judy.
I had these little suitcases. I think they can be used as a gift card holder. I turned it into a card for her.
I just used Tim Holtz grungeboard and cut them into the shape of a tag. The first page I covered with T!m paper and I also used crackle paint. Oh how I love that stuff.I ran one through the Vagabond with an embossing folder then I used Tim's distress inks to give it some color.
I'm such a Tim fan I used many of his products
. I was hoping Judy would like it. Anyone that knows T!m will be able to pick out his products. It sure was a fun project. I have a couple more of these little suitcases I'll have to figure someone else to make one for.

Took a break

I took a break from Christmas cards just for a bit. I made Halloween cards for the grand daughters. Fast, simple and easy but oh so cute.
I also had the urge to do a couple more Christmas cards. My daughter-in-law, Christel came out and worked on some cards for them.
The card with the cute stockings is a stampset from Stampin Up and I got the idea from Mercedes Weber. She did an awesome job on it. I changed it just a bit with the middle stocking. The card with the silver background I saw in the internet somewhere. I can't remember who did it. Sorry I can't give credit to the right person.

Between the cards Gene and I flew to Minnesota so see Doc's at Mayo Clinic. We're back in Virgina now. Boy did it get cold in MN. Freeze warning one morning. Leaves were starting to change colors. While in Minnesota we stopped at Mall of America to check out Scrapfest. I did some major damage on my credit card at Archivers.

We'll be heading back to Florida next week. I'm looking forward to that since I miss my friends at "The Crafty Lady" I have some projects I need to get done before Christmas.

Christmas cards

Well now that I'm done with fullfilling a card order I can get back
to making Christmas cards.
I found the tree card on Splitcoast stampers but they used black. I just can't associate black with Christmas so I used red instead. I used Stampin Up's Holiday Happiness, SU Petals-a-plenty embossing folder, Real Red card stock, shiney silver card stock from Marco's Papers and SU Real Red ribbon.
Red Rhinestones I picked up at Michaels.

The Snowman card I saw at Stampfest in Florida, I can't recall the name of the vendor.
I fell in love with it. It uses the Tim Holtz snowman die, the snowflakes from from the same die. Sizzix embossing folder, blue Bazzil card stock from Michaels. I don't think I
changed it too much. I added words to the front of the card and used a Stampin Up punch.
I have several other cards to make yet.
I took a break from helping my husband, Gene build a shed so I better get moving.

Week of stamping with a good friend

My friend Donna from Wisconsin came to visit for a week. We did some shopping and went to Hersheys in PA. We did some stamping and stopped in D.C. to check out the Memorials.
Here are some of the cards we made. I got the idea for the fish card from GinaK, although I added the flower to the top corner. There are a few others that I found on the internet but I did add my flair to them in some way.

Our friend Cheryl didn't make it on this trip so Donna brought a picture of her and we put her on a stick and brought her to alot of the places we went. It was a little strange but, we have a blast. Maybe we had too much fun with her on a stick. We even took her to a stamping store.

Little purse shaped book

Well I finally did it. I worked on two more little purse shaped books.
This time they are for Arianna and Emma our little grand daughters in Washington state.
I don't know why I procrastinate so much I really enjoyed making these.
I hope the girls like them.

More Bird houses

When we arrived in Front Royal, Va last month 2 of my grand daughters, Kaylee and Brigette fell in love with my bird house. They all came out for the weekend and while our son Eugene was tiling our bathroom walls I showed the girls how to make the bird houses. What a couple of troopers, even Christel got into the action and did a bird house. The youngest, Brigette was not at all intimdated by it. I just had to remind her not to put too many like colors together. Kaylee and Christel were a little more concerned about the placement. Kaylee's house is with the pink bottom, Brigette's has the orange bottom and Christel's has the green bottom. They were so proud of them Brigette took it to school for show and tell.
We met up with them last night for a special supper. Kaylee made the Honor Roll for the 4th time this year, she also got an award for science and reading.
I wish Jon and Jana lived closer, being stationed in Seattle, WA is a bit away.

Bird house or should I say Bird Condo????

I'm sure everyone that has gone into Joann's Fabric store has seen bins of these little
bird houses for $1.00 I'm posting my version of this little bird house.

I tore little pieces of desiner paper and inked up all the edges glued it down with "YES" paste. When finsihed I gave it a coat of Polyurethane. I bought the little flowers I think from Joanns or it could have been Michaels. That was back in April a girl can't remember everything you know. LOL
I have done this technique several times and I just love it.
I just bought 4 more so I can do some with Kaylee and Brigette and of course Christel. Gene thinks it turned out pretty cute.

Box I gave to Tim Holtz Saturday

I deleted my camera with the pictures of the box I made for Tim Holtz.
I e-mailed Tim and asked if he would take some pictures once he caught his
breath from all his classes. Well he did, I also received a surprise e-mail
from Liz one of the staff at Whim so doodle. She also took pictures when I showed
her the box.
So here it is. I used all his product on it except for the top of the box. I did some metal embossing. If you all remember the stamp set Tim has out has little numbers on the umbrella guy. Well I just reversed it and put the numbers as the background and left the man plain so he could all shiny. This was of course under the direction of Maria Luisa at "The Crafty Lady" in Inverness, FL I strongly urge everyone to check out the store. Remember it's a teaching store. Everyone there is
extremely helpful.

My finished Patchwork Project

I did it, I finished my project from Tim Holt's class. He gave us an unfinished frame so I just stained it and put a coat of Polyurathane on it.
But the Patchwork is my most favorite thing right now. I love the way it turned out. He gave us a template so we knew how to fit all the pieces into place. He also provided us with a colored picture of his so we had some idea where to put embellishments which he also provided. Don't you just love it?

Tim Holtz class in St. Pete, FL

I had the best day yesterday. I took a Tim Holtz class and it was 5 hr of wonderful
goodness. He showed us how to make the once retired Patwork Pandemonium.
It was fast moving, but not too much to lose anyone. He is a fantastic teacher just as nice in person as he appears on his video's Whim so Doodle was his sponser for the past 2 days. They were very helful with everything.
I made Tim a tag as a gift which I will post, I also made him a awesome little box with metal embossing on top which I can't find a picture of. DARN!

I went with my friend Debra had such a good time with a good friend.
I added a couple of pictures of everyone working on their projects. There was about 100 people attending.

Metal Embossed Egret

I was back at The Crafty Lady the past 2 weeks working on my latest project. Once again Maria Luisa is the best teacher. I started with a flat piece of metal and finished with this wonderful metal embossed Egret. I am so pleased with the finished project I can sit and look at it all evening.

I would recommend anyone in this area to try a class at The Crafty Lady in Inverness, FL

Everyone that works there are the greatest. I already have projects scheduled for September.

Another Configuration Box

My 6 yr old niece wanted a little box like I made for myself. (configuration box) BUT she wanted it in the theme of "HighSchool Musical" when I started looking for items to go in the box,

I thought Oh my gosh where will I find anything.

Well, Madison had a whole selection of stuff to go in there. She sent me a box full of her little goodies. I had so much fun doing this box and I think it turned out really neat. I hope she likes it as much as I do.

Altered Box

Recently I joined an Altered Box Swap with one of my stamping groups.

I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I used Tim Holtz Scrapbook paper along with other embellishments of Tim's. Once the box was done I headed over to The Crafty Lady where I learned how to do Metal Embossing. I showed Maria Luisa (teacher) what I wanted for the top of the box. Since this group is all about Tim Holtz I took one of his stamps (When I see this stamp I think of Tim Holtz) and down sized it to fit on the top of the box. Maria Luisa was kind

enough to help me out with my project.

She is such an awesome teacher, I spent today working on another project with her.

My swap partner for the Altered box was one of the owners of the stamping group. Boy to me the pressure was on. I felt it had to be perfect in every way.

I feel the finished box met all my expectations. I hope you agree.

Metal Embossing

I've been held up in the house a little bit lately so I decided to take a class. It's Metal Embossing, the class was held at "The Crafty Lady" in Inverness, FL It's a teaching store. Their number one thing is painting. However, they have lots of things to learn there. The owner of the store, Marianne is so so talented. Maria Luisa is the teacher for the Metal Embossing. I love her she is just so sweet, actually everyone that helps in the store is very nice to deal with. I love, love, love it there. I've already signed up for another project. I started out with a flat piece of tin, check out my finished project. Butterflies and all. I want to add that the blue part is glass. I don't want everyone thinking I made the glass also. Sorry for any confusion. I did all the metal looking part.

My first Tim Holtz Configuration Box

I fell in love with these boxes when I saw them come out. I decided I couldn't live without one.

I found one at one of our local stamping stores "Creative hands in Spring Hill, FL

I didn't have a theme for this box I just used what I have been collecting, but all if I say so myself it turned out wonderful. In the first cubbiehole is a little blue bird cage. This is the Tim Holtz bird cage die. I cut it out with Shrinky dink and colored it with Alcohol Inks and shrunk it down in the oven. Cool huh? I just can't stop looking at it.

I have 4 more boxes planned but with a theme this time. I want to do a box for each of my grand daughters. I have to start looking for the right size box.

New Craft carrying Case

I stopped in one of our stamping stores and the owner created a set of luggage like this. I'm not as ambitious as she is, so I created a neat little carrying case for my stamping supplies.

I found this case at a yard sale for $5.00 the picture of the solid black one is just like the one I bought just not as pretty. It was pretty scuffed up. Unforunately I forgot to take a picture before I altered it.

The rest of the pictures is the new look for my case.

I am so pleased with the way it turned out.

I tore each piece of paper and inked the deges and used "YES" paste to adhere it to the case.

I'm so anal about everything it took me a few days, I didn't want the same color in too many places. I used the theme of the Caribbean and I put a few pictures of me and gene while on our cruise. I finished it off with 4 coasts of Polyurethane finish.

Dawn D's challenge card #2

Well the next drawer I opened was a fairly large brad. This is the card I came up with.

It a simple plain card. I like making these every once in a while. I love this stamp but never sure how to use it. I thought this was a perfect stamp for this brad.

I embossed with clear embossing powder. Take note I didn't use ribbon. I'm famous for using ribbon on just about everything I make.

Dawn D's Challenge

I was in a word swap with one of the stamping groups I belong to. My partner gave me this great little box she made with 24 little drawers. Each drawer has something in it. Her challenge was only open one drawer at a time and creat something with what is inside. I can't look in any other drawer until I created something. I told her she was on.

She also gave a similar challenge to another friend and she is much faster than I am at creating and taking on the challenge.

One picture is of the box and the card has the ladybug on that I found in my first drawer.

Christmas Cards

Boy I'm on a roll this morning.

I've also been working on Christmas cards.

These are just 2 of the cards I've made.

I'm having so much fun making cards that I have a feeling

I'm getting carried away. I don't think I have that many friends to send all these to.

The card with the Santa face has a background paper that is flocked. Give it nice texture, along with some glitz in places using Stickles.

I got the idea for the Faux Postage Santa from StampFest. Boy I love going to StampFest the ideas are endless.

The Santa is not a stamp but just some scrapbook paper cut with a Postage Scissors. How cool is that?

Birthday Gift Bag

My friend is having a birthday Sunday, I walked around the store the other day looking for just the right wrapping paper. Nothing tripped my trigger so I decided to decorate my own bag.

I'm very pleased with the results and I think my friend will be also.

This is a great project to do with kids. So remember this the next time your child is invited to

a birthday party.

Soot Stamping

Sorry I've been MIA,

So much has gone on since I last posted. I went to Japan to visit my son, and then on to

Virginia to see my oldest son.

I'm home now and I've been enjoying my time with friends making cards.

Recently I've had a bug doing Soot Cards.

Using Glossy card stock (not photo paper) Holding it over a candle being careful to keep it moving so it doesn't start on fire. The flame will turn the glossy side pretty dark this can also

be very messy. Once you have enough soot you take a dry rubber stamp and stamp right on the soot. ( this will not hurt the stamp and will clean off using your usual cleaning method.)

The rubber stamp will remove the soot and leave an image. Keep in mind where ever you touch you will leave finger prints. So try to spray a sealer on as soon as you can.

I use Krylon Workable Fixative.

I hope you all give this a try, you'll love the results.

TRI shutter card

Another first

I signed up for my first ATC swap.
The theme was "I Love Butterflys"
I never made an ATC before so I had to look up
to even know the dimensions.
When I saw the theme I knew right away what I
wanted to do.
Since this was such a small area to work on I used the
very tip of SU Inspired by Nature for the grass.
I used a template to make the clouds in the background.

My attempt at using Nestabilities

I bought my first 2 sets of Nestabilities, wow! I like them, I used the Scallop Ovals and the Ovals.
Thanks to Judy for showing me how to use them. I swore I wasn't going to buy any more things.
But, nooooo I had to make the purchase. Used the Swiss Dot cuttlebug folder for the background along with SU Riding Hood Red card stock and SU Old Olive ribbon.
The image is a waxed napkin.

Finished my Easter tins

These are for Kaylee and Brigette. I will
be mailing these off by the end of the week
to make it to Virginia in time for Easter.

Mt Dora Road Trip

Saturday I went with 4 other women on a road trip to Mt Dora, FL
We all belong to the same stamping group. We had such a wonderful
time and the weather was lovely. We stopped at The Stamping Station
where they had a make and take for us to do.
I included the monkey card we made.
I bought some of the monkey paper and of course the monkey stamp.
We are already planning our next road trip. What a great way to
spend quality time with friends.

Easter Tins

I finished 2 of the great Easter tins for my grand daughters. I thought of using these instead of the traditional baskets. Aren't they cute?
These will heading off to Japan by the end of this week so the Easter Bunny can
get them to Okinawa, Japan on time.
Yes my son is in the Army and they are stationed in Japan, it is killing me not to be closer to my grand daughters. We are planning a trip over there to see those little girls and their mom and dad of course.

Oh, after looking at the picture of the open tin, I forgot to get them at least one chocolate bunny. Well back to the store they can't be sent without a chocolate bunny.

Easter time

My friend Judy came over today and I worked on some Easter cards for my grand daughters. I've uploaded two of them, I used Copic markers to color the hat and I
flocked the bunny. I am currently working on tins for their Easter baskets instead of
the traditional baskets. They can use them afterward for their hair ties.
I will post a picture when I'm done.

March 19th Play date

I had a few women over today and unveiled a friends new Big Shot Express. Unfortunately the bugs are not worked out yet.
I had a new Stampin Up die cut (Flower, Daisies #2) a die worth buying.
It produces some mighty pretty flowers.
In the picture I used regular SU card stock and also cut out flowers using a fabric paper, I think wall paper would work just as well.
I alternated the card stock with the fabric paper as you can see it sure adds some depth to the flower.

Valentine Cards

Here are a couple of Valentine cards I've made. The pink ones are for a couple of friends going with me to Stampfest on Valentines day. The red card is for my wonderful hubby.
